(In Other Sports) Nate Diaz defeated McGregor in the second round with a crazy rear naked choke hold.
A bloodied Nate Diaz forced Conor McGregor to tap out in the second round of the main event of UFC 196.
Diaz took a beating early on, but the way his durability and mental strength is set up… in taking licks McGregor was giving, Diaz was handing it back. The reigning featherweight champion repeatedly hit Diaz’s chin with that left hand, which opened up a cut on the side of Diaz’s face in the first round.
The turning point came when McGregor was badly beat up in the second round. He continued to trade blows with Diaz, but wasn’t accurate with it.
Diaz blasted McGregor with hard hands from that dominant position until McGregor was forced to turn over and away from the punches.
The way Diaz slipped his arm right under McGregor’s chin was epic, and after a few seconds, he handed “Notorious” his first loss in the UFC.
After the fight, Diaz said he wasn’t surprised at the result. It was the Stockton native’s 14th win in the UFC – by far the biggest of his professional martial arts career.
